I. Research (Introduction to a topic) Desillusion and the depth behind interaction and relationships.
a. Artists/Art movements: Tim noble , Sue Webster, Shiego Fukuda, James Turrell
b. Other areas of research: Color theory the way the eyes react to color and light.
II. Path of Inquiry (Deeper investigation of a topic)
a. What direction will I take? Focus. Representational but mainly conceptual with forms people can associate to.
b. What does the road look like? Experimenting with color. Formulating imagery. Discovering what colors give what images.
c. Where do I think it will lead? It will cause awareness but also a connection to the viewers own personal life and the possibility to share that idea.
III. Development of Thesis (Beyond the topic)
a. The thesis statement: Disillusion towards a human interaction or a false sense of reality most people undergo but don’t realize. Exploring the strong existence of sonder(a made up word used to express the emotion that other people’s lives are as complexed as your own).
b. For our purposes the Thesis may also be experimental, but it must have a goal in mind. It is still not simply a topic.
Everyone has different ways of expressing their ideas of relations and interactions. Every relationship has more sides to itself that people don’t see. Even though these things aren’t seen they can be sensed and sometimes are seen but not interpreted.
IV. Material Goal (Defense of topic? Purpose of Experimentation?)
Color theory, How to get the desired complementary colors. Forms in relation to a viewer. The way people react to color and its properties exposed to different light. Familiar forms people can make a connection to and in turn hopefully bring out memories or awareness and understanding.
V. Action Plan (How will you get there?)
Small works – Light fixture ideas how to get desired light. Window structures creating a viewpoint and how this affects the viewers interaction. Color swabs to test how strongly they affect the eye.
b. Deadlines of Small works: Worked on developing personal research with how I want to convey visuals. Experiment with colors and materials. Create imagery and find response.
c. Benchmarks:
d. Hard Deadlines- critiques: Well resolved imagery containing the interaction between people and the way they are perceived in the world.
VI. Self Assessment
a. Process: I will be working in steps many of my sculptures containing many parts to create a narrative and a reaction from the viewer. The components will come together for the final work and will show a solid piece rather than several components.
b. Formal/aesthetic: Simple understandable forms interacting with space to create illusions and connections between relative concepts.
c. Conceptual/communicative: I hope to bring attention to the way people share relationships between themselves and the spaces they live in. People’s lives are so complexed and constantly changing due to an influx of information. I hope my work will create connections and make connections to peoples own lives.
VII. Presentation: I wish for people to understand my concepts without having to explain but certain components will be suggested.
a. Artist Statement: on my website.
Oral presentation at critique: Titles will be presented as well as formal aspects of the work and inspiration(giving personal view and narrative to the work).
VIII. Documentation
a. Appropriate photo/video documentation. My work plays with space and point of view and will be shown in relative positions. I hope to add sound components to my work but am still not sure how.
i. 3-5 images. Images showing several angles and important aspects of the work.
b. Uploaded to personal website
i. Includes statement
ii. Includes images and/or link to video
